This week on Enterprise Stories we feature Amara Okoli the founder of Mara Cruiz Organics - a Nigerian owned brand that specializes in producing natural products for hair and skin care. Mara Cruiz Organics was born out of necessity. One morning, while Amara was bathing her baby, she discovered that the baby products she was using for her baby had damaged her daughter’s tender skin, leaving burnt patches and boils on her scalp. This discovery got her worried but at the same time stirred up her culinary skills and interest in organics skin care products. So, Amara decided to mix some Shea Butter and Coconut Oil baby butter to clear the patches and boils on her daughter. This discovery sparked her imagination to carry out more research on other things nature had to offer. At this juncture, she began professional learning, formulation and manufacturing of natural, premium alternatives to chemical skin and hair care products. Determined to share this with the world, Amara decided to register MARA CRUIZ ORGANICS as a business in 2014 but started full operations in 2015 with just 2 staff. Today, Mara Cruiz Organics has over 80 distributors in Nigeria, Ghana and Benin Republic. She won the Afrikinky Award in 2017 for Best Natural Hair Brand in Nigeria.
